According to View post on X, the personal data of about 400 million Twitter users is currently for sale on the dark web. Among the stolen items are email addresses and private phone numbers. The report says an attacker in early 2022 exploited a security flaw in the social media platform to access the data.

With the user data up for sale, platform users could become targets of phishing attacks or something similar. Crypto hodlers should be especially careful.

Prominent crypto figures, including Vitalik Buterin, Kevin O'Leary, and Mark Cuban, were also affected by the data breach. Meanwhile, the full scope of the security flaw cannot yet be fully clarified. According to Statista, Twitter had no more than 370 million users this year and last year.

The cybercrime intelligence outfit Hudson Rock was able to largely verify the datac legitimacy, as they stated in a View post on X. But there is still uncertainty about whether 400 million users were truly affected.
