Almost 50% of all blockchain gamers are bots

Blockchain games aren't that popular with people. But they're far more popular with bots. This is shown by a new study.

Many people say blockchain games aren't fun enough. Yet they're played. How is this possible? It's now clear by whom: almost half of all users are bots.

At least that's what Levan Kvirkvelia, co-founder of an anti-bot service, claims. The analyst studied more than 60 blockchain games and found that about 40 percent of active users were automated bots. On average, there were 200,000 per game.

The bots are meant to artificially inflate the user counts of the respective games.

Blockchain games peaked temporarily in 2021. The top game, Axie Infinity, reached nearly two million daily users at its peak, most of them in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the hype has faded. And more problems are coming to light. Axie Infinity became the victim of the largest DeFi hack in history due to gross negligence. $650 million was lost.

Another study found that most blockchain games are also very lax when it comes to security issues. Further mega-hacks are only a matter of time.
