Binance Listing of Axis Drops 40% After Insider Selling

ZachXBT points to selling through a team wallet and DEXs; Axis denies it and blames the dump on an OTC partner with a lock-up.

Binance Listing of Axis Drops 40% After Insider Selling

Key Takeaways

  • The AXIS token fell about 40% after 42 million tokens were sold, worth about $5 million, shortly after the Binance listing.
  • Researcher ZachXBT says insiders received more than 76 million tokens through a team wallet and sold a large part of them.
  • Axis denies that the team or investors sold and says an OTC partner may have still brought the tokens to market.

One week after its listing on Binance, Axis Robotics' AXIS token took a sharp hit. A seller dumped 42 million tokens in one day, worth about $5 million (€4.5 million), after which the price fell around 40%. Researcher ZachXBT says insiders received the tokens through a team wallet, while Axis itself denies that team or investor tokens were sold.

Big Sell-Off After Listing

Axis Robotics collects data for robot training and launched its AXIS token on October 21. Binance first added the token to its Alpha section, followed by Coinbase and South Korea's Upbit. Listings like these often draw a lot of attention, but they can also lead to sharp price swings once trading gets going.

According to ZachXBT, insiders received more than 76 million tokens, worth more than $12 million (€10.8 million), from a team wallet. Most of that was converted into USDC, a dollar-pegged digital currency, through decentralized exchanges. Some also went to Bitget. The blockchain researcher said one entity received about 42 million AXIS through the team's multisig and then sold it shortly after.

Axis Points to OTC Partner

Axis tells a different story. The company says it did not sell any team or investor tokens and that the coins from the community fund went to an unnamed OTC trading partner under a written lock-up. According to Axis, the pattern of the sales, through hundreds of new addresses within a few hours, suggests that counterparty still sold the tokens on the market.

The crypto company says it has cut ties with that party and brought in lawyers. The tokenomics state that 80 million tokens were released from the community fund at launch. ZachXBT traced 76 million of them. The remaining 835 million tokens, according to Axis, are locked in a contract managed together with Binance.

Why This Matters for Investors

For European crypto investors, this case shows how vulnerable a new listing can be when token distribution is unclear. The mix of fast exchange listings, large unlocks, and selling through multiple addresses makes it hard for the market to quickly see who is behind the transactions. Earlier research into Binance listings also showed that some tokens, after a strong initial reaction, later still fall below the listing price, which makes token distribution and lock-ups even more important. The recent rise in altcoin trading also shows how quickly capital can shift once risk appetite picks up in the market.
