Basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal faces lawsuit in FTX scam

The former NBA star is accused of promoting the fraudulent crypto exchange FTX. After months of dodging, he has now received his lawsuit.

As tweets from the Moskowitz law firm confirm, basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal has received his claim in the FTX scandal. The former athlete reportedly personally was served the summons outside his Atlanta home. According to statements from Moskowitz, O'Neal had spent the past three months "dodging service of the lawsuit."

The basketball player had repeatedly dodged representatives of the law firm, making formal service of process impossible. Meanwhile, a US judge rejected electronic service via email, Instagram, or Twitter.

With the service of process, Shaquille O'Neal must now defend himself in court. He is accused of involvement in the fraud surrounding the FTX crypto exchange.

Along with other celebrities, including football star Tom Brady, the former athlete endorsed the company. The basketball legend was nicknamed "Shaqtoshi" in an FTX TV ad.

The endorsing celebrities, however, failed to do their due diligence and thus directed millions of their fans to the fraudulent crypto exchange, according to the class action lawsuit. Besides O'Neal, all 20 defendants had already received their notices.
