Just two weeks after his conviction, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao is speaking out again. Surprisingly, he is hinting at using his upcoming time off to write a book.
In a new Twitter post, Zhao joked, "I have a 'quiet time' ahead. I'm going to use that to write something. With this, CZ alludes to his upcoming four-month prison sentence. Zhao stepped down as CEO of Binance in 2023. As part of a settlement with U.S. authorities, the exchange agreed at the time to pay $4.3 billion. The charge: violation of U.S. anti-money laundering laws.
Despite the criminal conviction, Zhao is considered a hero in the crypto community. With Binance, he created the world's largest crypto exchange, so an autobiography is likely to attract a lot of interest.
Zhao had previously revealed that he is still interested in cryptocurrencies and confirmed that he continues to invest. With a fortune estimated at $43 billion, he is the richest man in history in a U.S. prison.
Nor does it look like he will leave the crypto sectpr. Binance's successor Richard Teng is considered a close confidant, meaning Zhao will likely continue to indirectly influence the fortunes of the company.
