One of the original Bitcoin Core developers apparently became the victim of a hack. Coins worth $3.6 million have vanished.
Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr must have had a rough start to the year. He confirmed in a Sunday tweet that at least a large portion, and likely all, of his coins were lost in the hack.
He called on the Bitcoin Twitter community to help, as he had "no idea" how the attack could have happened. Apparently the attacker(s) gained access to his PGP key and with it to his wallet.
He gave no information about the amount of lost bitcoins. The wallet address he shared shows 216 BTC, currently worth about US$3.6 million. Including Binance CEO Changpeng ZhaoView post on X in helping resolve the case.
Some members of the community speculate about possible negligence by the developer. According to a post from View post on X, he had previously detected malware on his computer. He may not have taken the necessary precautions as a result.
