Bitcoin Holds $64,000 Despite Higher Rates and Oil

Higher U.S. rates and more expensive oil are weighing on risk sentiment, but Bitcoin is staying above $64,000. Traders are watching for possible ETF demand and the $64,500 level.

Bitcoin Holds $64,000 Despite Higher Rates and Oil

Key Takeaways

  • Bitcoin stayed around $64,100 on Tuesday and closed about 1% higher, despite weaker risk sentiment across broader markets.
  • Higher bond yields and more expensive oil pressured sentiment, while the 30-year U.S. Treasury yield rose to 5.33%.
  • Bitcoin stayed above $64,000 and outperformed stocks, while traders watched for a breakout above $64,500.

Bitcoin held steady around $64,100 (€55,300) on Tuesday, putting it 1% higher on the day despite clearly weaker risk sentiment across broader markets. The coin stayed above $64,000 (€55,200) as higher bond yields and more expensive oil further cooled appetite for risk assets.

Rates and Oil Pressure Sentiment

The pressure is mostly coming from the macro side. The 30-year U.S. Treasury yield rose to 5.33%, its highest level since 2007, as investors demand higher compensation for financing heavily indebted governments and for hedging stubborn inflation. At the same time, Brent climbed above $91 (€78) per barrel, partly because of the escalation in the U.S.-Iran conflict. S&P 500 futures fell 0.5% and were headed for a third straight losing day.

That combination is also hitting crypto. Higher oil prices can fuel inflation expectations, which then feed into rates and financing costs. For Bitcoin, that means extra headwinds, since the coin is still traded in the same risk complex as stocks and other growth-related assets.

Bitcoin Remains Relatively Strong

What stands out is that Bitcoin still finished the day in the green and was also up on the week. That contrasts with weakness in stocks and fits the idea that there is renewed demand from the ETF side of the market, without that being a firm conclusion just yet. ETF inflows had already helped the coin stay above $63,000 (€54,300), while institutional selling flipped into buying interest. Ether stayed around $1,893 (€1,630), and the rest of the major coins barely moved.

Hyperliquid was the standout performer of the week, rising 8.3%. For European crypto followers, the main takeaway is that Bitcoin seems to be acting a bit more independently than traditional risk markets in this tense macro environment for now, although that relative strength remains vulnerable as long as rates and oil keep climbing.

What Traders Are Watching

A break above $64,500 (€55,600) would strengthen the signal that new buyers are absorbing the macro pressure. On the downside, further oil gains toward $100 (€86) and rising rates could test that resilience quickly. For now, Bitcoin remains stuck in a narrow range, but with more strength than many other risk assets.
