In an interview with CNBC, Gary Gensler, the outgoing chairman of the SEC, shares his views on Bitcoin. "I think Bitcoin is a highly speculative and volatile asset," says Gensler.

Nevertheless, he recognizes Bitcoin's potential: "Like gold, which we have had for 10,000 years, Bitcoin could play a role in the future," the economist explained. His influence was crucial to the approval of spot ETFs. Gensler further emphasizes the need for other crypto projects, known as Altcoins, to prove their worth. "These thousands of other projects need to demonstrate their usefulness and prove that there is a solid foundation on which they are building. If not, they will not survive."

During the interview, CNBC presenter Joe Kernen, known as a supporter of Bitcoin, jokingly interrupted him, "Oh my God, you own Bitcoin! You definitely own Bitcoin! You love it!" Although Gensler denies this, there are numerous indications that he is a supporter of Bitcoin. This begs the question: Is Gary Gensler secretly a Bitcoin maximalist?

In November, Gensler announced his resignation. He indicated to his successor that "there is still work to be done." It remains uncertain whether his successor shares this view.
