Bitkom survey: Half of companies believe in crypto's future
A mere fraction of German companies are currently using cryptocurrency, despite believing in its future.

Only a fraction of German companies are currently using cryptocurrency, despite believing in its future. That comes from a new survey by the digital industry association Bitkom.
According to the study, 48 percent of the 602 surveyed companies expect crypto payments to be the normal thing in ten years. Yet currently only 2 percent actually use cryptocurrency. Another 6 percent are at least open to it.
But a whopping 86 percent say they can’t imagine using crypto in the future either. The main barriers? Large price volatility, fraud risk, regulatory uncertainty, and a lack of knowledge. In addition, 39 percent think cryptos are mostly for individuals. Bigger companies (with at least 500 employees) show a bit more interest—12 percent are considering actual use.
Frederic Meyer, blockchain expert at Bitkom, says: “Interest in blockchain and crypto is definitely present in the business world—especially in finance we’re seeing concrete applications take shape right now.” He also calls for more policy support: “In the new digital ministry, there should really be people dedicated to blockchain—for example, a separate department. Only then can we tap the tech’s potential for the economy and society.”
The study was conducted with 602 companies with at least 20 employees, interviewed by phone between weeks 10 and 16 of 2025.
Meanwhile, the crypto market is surprisingly quiet, even though Bitcoin is still close to its all-time high. But who knows: perhaps this investor apathy could actually lay the groundwork for the next rally.
