The world's largest asset manager, BlackRock, is enabling its institutional clients to trade with Bitcoin. The investment firm is partnering with Coinbase Prime. Coinbase Prime's version is aimed at large investors.
Clients of BlackRock's asset management platform "Aladdin" get direct access to Bitcoin trading via Coinbase Prime. In addition, these institutional investors can use Coinbase's own trading capabilities and custody service.
Early reports and speculation about BlackRock's crypto plans surfaced as far back as February this year. For now, the service is only for Bitcoin. Coinbase gave no additional details on integrating other cryptocurrencies.
However, the expansion of the partnership and services to interested clients was promised. BlackRock is the world's largest asset manager, with a volume of more than ten trillion US dollars. Its clients include private investors, banks, pension funds, and foundations.
The investment firm is also one of the largest ETF providers under its iShares brand. Plus, at the end of April, the first Bitcoin-based ETF was launched.
