BlackRock Is Working on ETF Tokens on the Blockchain
The world's largest asset manager, BlackRock, is reportedly planning to make exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tradable as tokens on the blockchain, according to a Bloomberg report.

The world's largest asset manager, BlackRock, is reportedly planning to bring exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to the blockchain as tokens, according to Bloomberg. The focus is mainly on products that reflect real assets, like stocks, digitally. A full rollout would, however, only be possible within existing regulations.
The move aligns with BlackRock's previous digital asset initiatives. In 2024, the company launched with Securitize the USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL), a tokenized money market fund on the Ethereum blockchain.
Additionally, BlackRock's Bitcoin Spot ETF has been one of the most successful ETF introductions in the company's history. CEO Larry Fink notes that ETFs remain the leading investment instrument, but tokenization is seen as the next crucial phase for financial markets.
When and how the new plans will materialize is still unclear. The Bloomberg report does not mention a timeline or technical details, such as the choice of blockchain. It also remains to be seen whether the products will be available only to institutional investors or if they will be more broadly accessible.
