Burger King Paris Accepts BTC. London ‘wants’ DOGE

Burgers for Bitcoin? In Paris it's possible. The Brits, however, are playing with a different idea. They're hinting (with a wink) that they want Dogecoin instead of Bitcoin.

"We need Doge," the official Burger King UK account tweeted on March 28, 2023. The tweet was in response to an announcement from Burger King Paris: the French branch has started accepting Bitcoin payments. The Doge community was delighted. Many users on Twitter said they'd like to pay with their cryptocurrencies.

It isn’t the first time Dogecoin and Burger King have crossed paths. In Brazil in 2021, Burger King accepted Doge as payment for a dog snack, the Dogpper. With Robinhood, they gave away two million Dogecoin that same year.

In 2022 Burger King tweeted "Only a king knows what da coin do." It was a response to Elon Musk's offer to McDonald's that he would eat a Happy Meal on TV if the company would accept Doge in return. Thanks to low transaction costs and fast speeds, Dogecoin is often affectionately called "Bitcoin for microtransactions."

Dogecoin actually started as a joke in 2013. Five billion coins are minted each year, which will lead to heavy inflation over time.
