Christie's launches NFT marketplace on Ethereum

Christie's, the 256-year-old auction house, is launching its own NFT marketplace on Ethereum. The institution announced this via a press release. The name of the new platform? Christie's 3.0. To go live immediately, an exclusive collection by Diana Sinclair will be available through the platform.

With that, Christie's becomes the world's first auction house to offer an NFT sale that takes place entirely on the blockchain. Christie's has dabbled in the digital collectibles space before. In March 2021, the auction house organized the sale of Beeple's artwork "Everydays: The First 5,000 Days" for a whopping $69.3 million.

With the new branch, Christie's now seems to be fully diving into the NFT sector. According to its own statement, the new platform shows its "commitment to both artists and collectors in Web 3.0".
