Dogechain expands DOGE functionality

The Dogechain protocol, built by community members, gives Dogecoin hodlers access to DeFi, gaming, and NFT sectors. The project has nothing else to do with the memecoin DOGE.

With the launch of Dogechain, the price of the memecoin Dogecoin (DOGE) jumped an impressive 16% in a weekly comparison (as of August 17). The network is not part of the cryptocurrency, but runs independently on the Polygon Edge blockchain software.

Jens Wiechers, a board member of the Dogecoin Foundation, said in a View post on X that he has nothing to do with the project. What’s notable is that the chain is compatible with Ethereum and that Dogecoin investors now have access to NFTs, gaming, and the DeFi sector.

The founders explain on their own website that Dogechain is built "by Doge holders for Doge holders". Investors can now "do more than hodl" with Dogechain and wait for "Dogecoin to reach the moon".

Dogechain operates via a "bridge" to the DOGE blockchain. Recently, there have been more attacks targeting such "bridges". The project appears to be getting off to a good start. View post on X showed that 58,000 wallets were created and 480,000 transactions processed in just five days. While the creators suggest it is "an honest project", caution is still advised. If in doubt: DYOR.
