Rollup provider Eclipse aims to make Solana applications compatible with Polygon with its scaling solution.
Crypto startup Eclipse will soon offer a scaling solution for Solana applications on Polygon, as told to TechCrunch by the rollup provider. The announced Polygon Solana (or Sealevel) Virtual Machine (SVM) is reportedly able to run smart contracts and Solana-compatible tools.
With the launch, decentralized apps (dApps) developed for the Solana blockchain can be migrated. Solana smart contracts will then run on Polygon SVM.
This should improve throughput and interoperability for dApps and gaming, Eclipse founder Neel Somani told TechCrunch. Applications, games, projects, protocols and more are still "too expensive" in the crypto ecosystem. But rollups can help support different use cases without restricting the underlying blockchain, Somani said.
Rollups process transactions on a separate, faster blockchain (Layer 2) and then bring the transaction data back to the parent blockchain at a fraction of the cost.
Users can benefit from the low transaction fees and high speed of the rollups, while preserving the high security of the Layer 1 chain.
The testnet for Polygon SVM is slated to go live in Q1 2023. The mainnet launch follows in the summer. In the meantime, competitors continue with their Layer 2 development. On March 16, the Ethereum L2 network Optimism plans a major upgrade.
