Ethereum Foundation seeks new leader: community supports developer

An unofficial survey of the Ethereum community shows strong support for Danny Ryan as the next leader of the Ethereum Foundation (EF). Participants could cast their votes via the website votedannryan.com, using their wallets to vote. An overwhelming 99.98 percent of participants supported the Ethereum developer. A total of 323 participants voted, who together own more than 51,000 ETH, worth approximately US$164 million.

It is important to note that Ryan was the only candidate in this vote, which will also not determine an official outcome for the choice of the next leader of the Ethereum Foundation. The purpose of the vote was only to gauge the community's opinion.

The reason for this vote is the growing leadership struggle within Ethereum. Some leading developers have already left the project and founder Vitalik Buterin is slowly losing patience. The cause of the conflict lies in the Foundation's leadership style. At the center of the criticism are the extensive ETH sales that the EF says are necessary to finance its development work, but which some Ethereum proponents say are causing significant damage to the organization's image.

At the time of writing, ETH is trading at US$3,216 and is down about five percent over the past month. However, on a year-over-year basis, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization has seen a 39 percent increase.
