First private bank to integrate Lightning payments

Through a new partnership, Xapo customers can now make Lightning payments up to $100.

Xapo Bank is the first bank to enable its customers to make bitcoin payments over the Lightning Network. This comes from the company's announcement on March 2.

The private Gibraltar-licensed bank has teamed up with Lightning infrastructure provider Lightspark for this.

Xapo Bank customers can now make purchases up to $100 at any merchant that accepts Lightning payments.

David Marcus, co-founder of Lightspark, said they want to enable payments "without the complexity and operational overhead that typically comes with running a node on the Lightning Network".

The new integration was introduced on February 27 as part of a new update to Xapo Bank's apps.
