DZ Bank in Germany bets on Ripple tech
The DZ Bank, one of Germany's largest custodian banks with assets under management of about €350 billion (as of August 2024), has teamed up with Ripple Custody to launch an innovative blockchain-based custody solution.

The DZ Bank, one of Germany's largest custodian banks with assets under management of about €350 billion (as of August 2024), has launched an innovative blockchain-based custody solution in collaboration with Ripple Custody launched. With this, the bank takes a new step in digitizing its services and positions itself as a pioneer in Germany's financial sector.
In collaboration with Ripple Custody, DZ Bank developed a digital infrastructure that not only stores assets but also settles and manages digital holdings. The system is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing capital market processes and complies with the requirements of Germany's Electronic Securities Act (eWpG), which enables the issuance of digital securities without physical paper certificates. Crypto securities also fall under this legislation.
Thanks to the Ripple partnership, the bank gains access to advanced blockchain analytics and professional wallet management, enabling institutional clients to securely and efficiently work with tokenized assets and cryptocurrencies.
"DZ Bank is very happy and proud to be among the first banks in Germany to actually build and bring a digital custody solution into production," says Holger Meffert, head of Custody Services and Digital Custody at DZ Bank. "We can now support our clients in storing and processing digital assets, with a strong focus on crypto assets within the German securities law framework."
This step underscores Ripple's ongoing focus on institutional adoption. Earlier this month the company expanded its presence in Dubai. With this official launch Ripple strengthens its position as a bridge between traditional financial institutions and the fast-evolving world of digital assets.
