Asset manager Fidelity confirmed the attack in a letter to the Maine attorney general's office. Fidelity ended the unauthorized access on August 19, shortly after the breach was discovered.
In a message to affected customers, Fidelity stated: "While there is no evidence that your personal data has been misused, we are offering you 24 months of free access to a credit monitoring and identity restoration service."
Fidelity, based in Boston, manages roughly five trillion dollars in assets for more than 50 million customers, a portion of which are through Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs. With the FBTC ETF, Fidelity runs the second-largest Bitcoin spot ETF on Wall Street, with nearly ten billion dollars in BTC purchases since trading began in January. By contrast, clients have bought ETH valued at $445 million via Fidelity’s Ether ETF (FETH) since July.
