Crypto icon Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, has been elected as prime minister of Liberland, a small 7 km2 nation located between the borders of Croatia and Serbia. Liberland accepts Bitcoin as official tender.
The election marked the full rollout of a blockchain-based voting system, which makes the results secure and tamper-proof, according to a press release from the 2015-founded nation by politician Vít Jedlička.
Only citizens who staked their Liberland Merits (LLM) were eligible to vote. Obtaining these LLMs is also a prerequisite for citizenship. Liberland was the "first country to adopt Bitcoin as its official currency," the self-proclaimed state said.
"Liberarians around the world can have their own countries and nationalities, but Liberland will be their ideological home — a place where their beliefs in freedom and autonomy are respected and embodied," said the ever-humble new premier Justin Sun.
Sun, founder of Tron, has developed one of the largest cryptocurrencies, currently ranked ninth by market cap. TRX is trading at $0.158 at the moment.
