The team behind the Solana-based decentralized exchange (DEX) Raydium announced on April 16 that it has launched its own memecoin-launchpad View post on X: LaunchLab. This move comes exactly one month after the introduction of PumpSwap, the new DEX from the popular and controversial Web3 protocol Pump.fun. With this step, Pump.fun shifted its token migrations from Raydium’s liquidity pools to its own platform.
Now Raydium is fighting back. With LaunchLab, it’s not only trying to reaffirm its position within the Solana ecosystem but also to cut Pump.fun off at the source: the moment memecoins see the light. The new platform aims to position itself as the definitive memecoin-launchpad, while PumpSwap gears up to dethrone Raydium as the biggest DEX on Solana.
LaunchLab offers an easy and cost-free way to launch tokens. Developers can set their own bonding curves without migration fees. Once a token reaches a value of 85 SOL (more than $11,000 at the time of writing), it is automatically admitted into Raydium’s Automated Market Maker (AMM). More than ten tokens have already surpassed this milestone. From that point on, the token creators receive 10 percent of trading fees.
Trading fees on LaunchLab are a standard 1 percent, of which 25 percent goes toward buybacks of the RAY token, Raydium’s own cryptocurrency. Investors hope RAY will regain its former highs. The token is currently trading around $2.30.
Meanwhile, memecoin platforms’ influence continues to grow steadily. Pump.fun was recently named the most profitable on-chain app. Ryan Connor, head of research at Blockworks, says critics of memecoins and launchpads are already feeling the sting:
