Litecoin Tests $75 After Record ETF Holdings

Litecoin ETF holdings hit a record, while the futures market is mostly powering the rally toward $75 with leverage. The RSI is high and points to overheating.

Litecoin Tests $75 After Record ETF Holdings

Key Takeaways

  • Litecoin climbed to its highest level in eight months as speculative demand and ETF holdings increased.
  • Futures open interest rose to about $670 million, pointing to growing leverage in the market.
  • ETF holdings hit a record of about 175,000 LTC, while the price tested the area around $75.

Litecoin has climbed to its highest level in eight months, while both speculative demand and ETF holdings continue to rise. At the same time, the derivatives market suggests that leverage, more than spot buyers, is driving the recent move.

Futures Rise Quickly

Litecoin futures open interest rose to about $670 million (€588 million), just below the peak of around $690 million (€605 million) reached in January. About $140 million (€123 million) was added in two days, and since the June low, open interest has more than doubled. Glassnode also reported that open interest measured in LTC rose by about 25% in a week, showing that traders are opening new positions.

That increase matters because earlier periods of heavy leverage did not always end well. In January, open interest peaked while LTC pulled back from above $80 (€70). In the weeks that followed, the price fell to about $53 (€46).

ETF Holdings Set a New Record

On the other side of the market, demand through spot Litecoin ETFs is also still growing. ETF balances tracked by Glassnode reached a record of about 175,000 LTC. Canary Capital's LTCC added about 39,000 LTC to that total, the biggest inflow so far, and holdings have nearly doubled since January. Based on the available figures, the ETF held about 136,292 LTC on September 22, worth $8.6 million (€7.5 million).

That shows institutional demand is definitely there, but the scale is still small compared with the derivatives market. The latest inflow was worth about $2.8 million (€2.5 million), while open interest rose by about $270 million (€237 million) over the same period. So ETF demand is helping, but it does not seem to be driving the price move on its own.

Litecoin Nears $75 (€66)

On the daily chart, LTC broke through the 0.5 Fibonacci line around $62.09 (€54) and the 0.618 line around $67.47 (€59) in a single candle. After that, the price tested the area around $75 (€66), where Litecoin had previously pulled back at the end of January. The move above the May high around $60 (€53) also marks the first higher high since the February-to-May period, after a series of higher lows since June.

The Relative Strength Index is at 81, the highest level this year. That points to overbought conditions and makes a short cooldown more likely, without any bearish divergence showing up yet. For European crypto followers, this is especially relevant because Litecoin shows how fast an altcoin can move when ETF inflows and leverage rise at the same time. It also highlights that a rally is not only driven by spot demand, but often by a mix of derivatives, fund flows, and technical levels.
