Magic Eden, the NFT trading platform that traces its roots to Solana, has acquired the crypto trading app Slingshot. With Slingshot, users can manage and trade their crypto holdings across multiple blockchain protocols, all from one streamlined interface.
The strength of Slingshot lies in its simplicity: users can buy and sell tokens from a single universal USDC balance, without needing to set up specific wallets or manually bridge cryptos between blockchains. Thanks to this acquisition, Magic Eden can expand its services beyond the Solana ecosystem.
“This acquisition is a major step in our mission to give people worldwide a seamless and secure way to buy and sell digital assets, regardless of the blockchain they’re on,” said CEO and co-founder Jack Lu in a blog post.
In a post on X, Lu sounded even more ambitious: “We’ve solved crypto’s holy grail: complete ‘chain abstraction’. That means trading without even noticing which blockchain you’re on. This is exactly the user experience that lets us compete with centralized exchanges.”
The Slingshot integration also enables new features, such as more options to convert fiat to crypto via platforms like Apple Pay and Venmo, and the use of AI-assisted tools.
Yet overall interest in NFTs appears to be waning. A DappRadar report shows NFT trading volume fell 19% in 2024. Art NFTs are even 93% less valuable than at the 2021 peak.
