A beta version has been live since July. Now Gamestop, the video game retailer, is officially launching its NFT marketplace. Is the launch coming at a bad time?
The Gamestop NFT marketplace is live. This is stated in a press release that the company issued yesterday, Monday, October 31. According to the release, the company launched its Marketplace for non-fungible tokens on Immutable X, a $2.5 billion Ethereum Layer 2 solution. This is an Eth scaling solution that, by its own info, can handle 9,000 transactions per second and is thus suitable for the gaming sector.
The launch, however, comes at an awkward moment. The NFT sector is in an even deeper winter than the overall market. With about $20 million USD per day traded, investors are only moving a fraction of the volume from the NFT hype earlier in the year.
It's widely known that Gamestop finds crypto interesting. Gamestop previously entered into a partnership with crypto exchange FTX.
