Norway's sovereign wealth fund hikes Bitcoin investment by 192%
Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), Norway's sovereign wealth fund, has significantly expanded its indirect Bitcoin position in 2025.

Norway's sovereign wealth fund Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) has significantly expanded its indirect Bitcoin position in 2025. According to data from crypto analytics firm K33 Research, the fund has boosted its exposure by 192% by mid-year to 7,161 BTC. By comparison, NBIM held 2,446 BTC in June 2024. With Bitcoin trading at around $119,000 per coin, this position is worth about $852 million.
“This is my favorite chart whenever the world’s largest sovereign fund makes its positions public,” Vetle Lunde, Head of Research at K33, says. “It clearly shows that Bitcoin, wanted or not, finds its way into every well-diversified portfolio.” According to Lunde, the growth is mainly due to higher stakes in publicly traded Bitcoin treasury companies like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) and Marathon Digital.
NBIM ranks among the world’s largest sovereign funds, with assets under management of more than $1.6 trillion. The fund invests globally in equities, bonds, and real estate.
