Are Visa and Mastercard pausing their crypto activities?

According to Reuters, Visa and Mastercard are pausing their crypto activities. A senior employee disagrees.

The two payment giants, Visa and Mastercard, would have temporarily halted their crypto activities. That reports by Reuters, which cites anonymous sources. According to the report, the pause impacts several product and service launches. The companies would reportedly wait for regulatory and market conditions to improve, per Reuters.

Focus remains on fiat currencies

On X (Twitter), Visa's Head of Crypto, Cuy Sheffield, pushes back on the report. They are still closely collaborating with various crypto companies. The focus is on fiat deposit and withdrawal options and on developing products that enable stablecoin payments.

And at Mastercard, crypto activities also appear to continue. A few days ago, the company announced a collaboration with the crypto firm Immersve to enable customers to pay with the stablecoin USDC.
