Ripple CEO warns investors: 'Don’t fall for this XRP scam'

XRP investors are increasingly the target of crypto scammers. Now the Ripple CEO reveals a particularly crafty tactic used by these criminals.

Ripple Labs and CEO Brad Garlinghouse have published a public warning to inform investors about the sharp rise in XRP-related scams. According to them, cybercriminals are using a dangerous new method.

“As clockwork, scammers intensify their attacks on the crypto community at every sign of success and market recovery,” writes the Ripple CEO in a post on X.

What he explicitly warns about: “PLEASE BE CAREFUL of the latest scam targeting the XRP community via YouTube and impersonating Ripple’s official account.” If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Ripple Labs had previously said on X that company executives would never ask users to send them XRP. Crypto scammers typically lure their victims with so-called XRP giveaways, where investors must first make a "deposit".

Last week Ripple hit a new all-time high of $3.65. That rise was in part thanks to Trump’s crypto legislation approval, including the GENIUS Act for stablecoin regulation.

After the euphoria, XRP’s price corrected sharply and, at the time of writing, sits at $3.08. That’s a 12% drop from a week earlier.

In the summer, approval of US XRP spot ETFs could provide a major boost.
