Robinhood Adds $25 Million in Bitcoin to Its Balance Sheet

Key Takeaways

  • Robinhood added about $25 million worth of Bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet.
  • Johann Kerbrat said the purchase highlights Robinhood's commitment to Bitcoin and the broader ecosystem.
  • Robinhood is now joining a growing group of publicly traded companies that hold Bitcoin as a treasury asset.

Robinhood has added about $25 million (€22.2 million) in Bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet. Johann Kerbrat, senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international, mentioned the move on Wednesday in an interview on The Starting Block during the Digital Asset Summit Asia.

According to Kerbrat, the purchase shows how strongly Robinhood is involved in Bitcoin and the broader ecosystem. At the same time, he said a $25 million (€22.2 million) position does little to change the company's direction, especially given Robinhood's market value of about $100 billion (€88.7 billion).

Robinhood Joins More Companies

With this addition, Robinhood is joining a growing group of publicly traded companies that hold Bitcoin as a treasury asset. According to the provided context, 173 public companies together hold about 1,298,547 BTC, worth roughly 6.18% of the total Bitcoin supply. Strategy remains by far the biggest holder, with 847,999 BTC.

That makes it clear that corporate reserves in the crypto market have become more than just a side experiment for some companies. For investors and followers of the sector, the main point is that these positions are being disclosed more often and are therefore easier to track. Strategy's purchases also show how big the role of publicly traded companies has become in bitcoin demand.

Robinhood Keeps Building on Crypto

Robinhood is no newcomer to crypto. The company launched Robinhood Chain in July, an Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 on Arbitrum focused on tokenized real-world assets and decentralized finance. Since launch, it has added tokenized stock products, a stablecoin called USDG, and lending through Robinhood Earn.

The platform also integrated major DeFi protocols like Uniswap and infrastructure from Chainlink, Alchemy, and BitGo. The Bitcoin addition to the balance sheet fits into a broader trend in which Robinhood continues expanding its crypto offering and blockchain activities.
