Was it a glitch, a teaser, or a leak? On the gate.io crypto exchange, a noticeable landing page appeared for several minutes for Pump.fun's long-awaited PUMP Token Sale, the popular memecoin launchpad on Solana. The page has since disappeared, but what stood out: there was a countdown clock that ends on July 12, in just four days.
So far there is no official confirmation from Pump.fun itself. Still, the footage is fueling solid speculation in the community.
According to leaked information, 150 billion PUMP tokens would be available at a price of $0.004 each, for a potential sale value of up to $600 million.
Pump.fun: from memecoins to billions
Pump.fun is now more than just a playground for memecoin makers. The platform lets users launch their own tokens on Solana in an accessible way and has taken off big. According to Blockworks data, Pump.fun has already generated about $700 million in fees. Users have minted almost 11 million tokens to date, with a collective market cap of around $4.5 billion.
In March of this year, the team also launched its own decentralized exchange (DEX), a further step toward a mature ecosystem.
Whether the token sale goes ahead and whether gate.io accidentally pressed the button too early remains speculative for now. But if the clock on the leaked page is correct, we’ll know more in four days.
