SEC Goes After Bittrex

Bittrex has already stopped trading in the U.S. The SEC, however, is continuing to take action against the crypto exchange.

The SEC is once again going after the crypto exchange Bittrex and is now weighing charges. In a press release from April 17, the U.S. regulator outlines the action.

Bittrex is accused of running an "unregistered securities exchange," according to the indictment. Additionally, profits were repeatedly prioritized over protecting investors.

SEC Chair Gary Gensler says: "Today's move underscores again that crypto markets suffer from a lack of regulatory compliance, not a lack of regulatory clarity."

Back in March the crypto exchange faced a threat of legal action from the SEC. As a result, Bittrex pulled back from the U.S. market. Oliver Linch, CEO of Bittrex Global, explains in an interview with BTC-ECHO why overregulation in the U.S. ultimately yields no winners.

Gary Gensler is meanwhile being questioned by a committee for his aggressive push against the crypto industry.
