Secret Bitcoin wallets discovered: 70,000 BTC linked to Michael Saylor and Strategy
The blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence says it has discovered a series of secret Bitcoin wallets linked to the US-based Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), led by Michael Saylor. In total, these addresses would hold 70,816 bitcoins, worth about $7.6 billion.
If that's true, it means more than 87 percent of Strategy's total Bitcoin holding, estimated at $54.5 billion, has now been brought to light. Strategy is known as the largest company solely focused on Bitcoin and plays a central role in the institutional adoption of the coin.
Hidden addresses brought to light
According to Arkham, Strategy deliberately kept these wallets out of sight. By analyzing transaction data and blockchain links, Arkham was able to connect the addresses to the company. On X the company wrote:
"We identified 70,816 additional BTC that belong to Strategy, bringing our total identified MSTR BTC position to $54.5 billion. We are the first to make these positions public."
For the first time, it’s possible to trace Strategy's transactions on the blockchain in detail.
Saylor remains vocal about privacy
Ironically, Michael Saylor has often spoken out against blockchain transparency in the past. At the Bitcoin conference in May 2025 he said:
"No serious security team would advise making all your wallet addresses public. You would be fully traceable."
According to him, this is a dangerous development that could cause every transaction to be tracked by smart contracts. "Ask AI about possible risks and you’ll get fifty pages," said Saylor.
Strategy keeps buying
Since 2020, Strategy has been buying Bitcoin at a brisk pace as an alternative to holding dollars. Under Saylor, the company has purchased more than 140,000 bitcoins, including purchases at all-time highs. That makes Strategy the largest institutional holder of Bitcoin worldwide.
Other firms are following suit. For example, the Japanese Metaplanet recently announced it would also put Bitcoin on its balance sheet.
Arkham's disclosure sharpens the debate on privacy, transparency, and security once again. One thing's certain: the moves of one of the world's biggest Bitcoin holders are now much less secret.
