How Bitcoin-Bullish Is the Human Rights Foundation (HFR)

Alex Gladstein, the HFR's CSO, is a well-known Bitcoin advocate. But the human rights organization itself is extremely Bitcoin-bullish.

According to Gladstein, Bitcoin has the potential to repair "broken democracies" and fight "government corruption." In a interview on February 20, he argued that the "decentralized nature of Bitcoin can pose a barrier to corruption and tyranny."

Specifically, he said: "where democracies have collapsed, I think it’s very clearly tied to fiat money, and BTC in some ways solves that."

Additionally, cryptocurrency stands for freedom of speech, property rights, and open capital markets, Gladstein said. In the coming years, many more "trigger moments" should lead more people to switch from the fiat system to Bitcoin, he adds.

The Human Rights Foundation apparently shares Gladstein's view and has been using Bitcoin as a censorship-resistant donation instrument for some time. Supporters have been able to support the human rights organization’s work with BTC since 2014.
