The odds are extremely small, but a solo miner still managed to get a Bitcoin-block. For this, he will receive $200,000.

A solo miner was lucky. With only 0.012 percent of the average hashrate, he beat the competition.

The miner processed block number 858,978, as evidenced by data from the Bitcoin Block Explorer Mempool.space. The block contained 2,391 transactions and the miner received 3.27 Bitcoin, equivalent to about $200,000.

At 456 PH/s, the solo-miner's hashrate was only a fraction of the 665 EH/s of the current network hashrate.

The miner is part of the mining pool CK Pool. This pool pools the hashrate of small miners, but pays the reward only to the one who successfully creates a hash.

Because of the dominance of large mining companies, it is rare for a solo miner to successfully validate a block: In 14 years, this has occurred only about 290 times.

The last time this happened was in July, with a $200 mining device.
