Grocery chain Pick n Pay expands its Bitcoin coverage to all of its stores in South Africa after a three-month trial.

Grocery chain Pick n Pay is integrating Bitcoin payments in all 1,628 stores in South Africa. As part of the nationwide rollout, customers will be able to pay with Bitcoin via smartphone apps or by scanning a QR code. To pay with BTC, customers will need a Bitcoin Lightning wallet and CryptoConvert's CryptoQR scanner app linked to the wallet, according to the View post on X.

This is how crypto adoption is progressing on the African continent. Recently there has been more demand for Bitcoin in Nigeria because of the digital central bank digital currency, eNaira. Interest in cryptocurrencies remains strong in emerging markets. South Africa ranks 30th worldwide in the Chainalysis 2022 Global Crypto Adoption Index.
