TRUMP Coin: Is the memecoin dead or making a comeback?
Donald Trump’s combative motto isn’t giving the memecoin much traction so far.

The combative slogan associated with Donald Trump hasn’t provided the memecoin with much wind in its sails yet. Since the January launch, just ahead of Trump’s potential new term, the price of the “Official Trump” crypto has been relentlessly drifting downward. With an 85% drop from $74 to around $11 currently, there’s no sign of a real comeback. Even during rallies, the coin hardly gained ground. Was this just hype, or is a surprise second act still possible?
Presidential debut, mediocre performance Never before has a U.S. president tied his name to a crypto project. But that changed on January 18: Official Trump came to light. The message was clear: under Trump, the American crypto world would be turned upside down. New laws, restructuring of regulators like the SEC, even national crypto reserves — it all seemed to tilt in the coin’s favor.
But where Bitcoin recently hit a new all-time high, Official Trump is lagging. Market capitalization collapsed from $8.8 billion to $2.2 billion. A free fall that even MAGA can’t stop.
Small investors, big losses For investors, the tally is bitter. According to Chainalysis data (May), about 764,000 wallets took a loss on their Trump investment — mostly small retail investors. On the flip side are a few big winners: only 58 wallets earned more than $10 million each, totaling about $1.1 billion in profit.
The biggest winner? Donald Trump himself. It’s estimated that roughly $350 million flowed into his private wealth via the coin. The coin is issued by his companies CIC Digital LLC and Fight Fight Fight LLC, which together own more than 80% of the tokens.
A ticking time bomb Notably, only 20% of the tokens are currently in circulation. The rest sit in insiders’ pockets and will gradually hit the market, a scenario that could push the price lower. Meanwhile, millions in trading fees flow to wallets directly linked to the project’s founders. The coin’s code automatically routes a portion of every transaction to these addresses. In short: the creators profit no matter what, even if the price falls.
No future vision, just headlines As memecoins go, Official Trump has little to no functional use. The price is driven purely by branding and media attention, and Trump is no stranger to that. Still, there are plenty of scandals: accusations of self-enrichment, alleged insider trading, and a recent closed-door investors dinner attended by, among others, Tron founder Justin Sun. Just news alone sent the coin up by 50% temporarily, of course.
For investors, betting on this kind of event is risky. Trump’s own involvement seems minimal: “I don’t know much about it, except that I launched it,” he once said at a press moment.
Bottom line: Trump Coin as a cash machine Official Trump is mainly a marketing tool and a revenue source for the Trump family. For investors, it looks like little more than an expensive gamble on the ex-president’s whims. The hype fades, momentum wanes, and while Trump can always stage a show, Official Trump remains, for now, essentially a memecoin with a shelf life.
