US launches 'Crypto Sprint': Trump speeds up crypto regulation

The Trump-era US government is pushing hard on crypto, per a press release, with a new initiative called 'Crypto Sprint'. The financial regulators CFTC and SEC are teaming up to quickly lay out clear rules for the crypto market. The goal is to make the United States the global leader in crypto.

Part of the plan is enabling regulated 24/7 trading on official financial markets. While crypto has been traded around the clock for years, that hasn't been true for futures and other regulated products. The idea is that these kinds of trading can also run continuously under U.S. supervision. In addition, they're working on scrapping outdated laws that don't fit the digital economy anymore.

There will also be a system to classify tokens as securities, commodities, or commercial products, so it's clear which regulator is responsible. New laws like the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and the GENIUS Act are meant to reduce overlap between rules, give more rights to users, and require full coverage of stablecoins. Digital central bank money is explicitly excluded.

Businesses are watching closely. Deloitte's research shows many CFOs want to integrate cloud tech into their financial strategy within two years. Large companies especially want to step into crypto, but only if the regulations are clear and reliable.

At the same time, Democratic critics push back. Senator Elizabeth Warren asks for clarity on possible conflicts of interest in crypto projects tied to Trump, such as the USD1 stablecoin. Some of Trump's relatives and allies allegedly own sizeable amounts of crypto.

The United States is going all-in on a leading role in the digital currency world, but the political debate over transparency and conflicts of interest continues for now.
