Hyperliquid (HYPE)
Hyperliquid is a Layer 1 blockchain for spot trading and perpetual futures. HYPE is the network’s token.
What is Hyperliquid?
A Layer 1 is an independent blockchain network. Hyperliquid has a trading layer called HyperCore, where buy and sell orders are processed directly on the blockchain.
The network also has HyperEVM. Developers can build smart contracts there: programs that automatically carry out preset rules. HYPE is used to pay transaction fees and can also be used for staking.
An example of Hyperliquid
Suppose someone wants to buy bitcoin on Hyperliquid’s spot market. They place a buy order with a price and quantity. If it matches a sell order, HyperCore executes the trade on the blockchain.
People can also trade perpetual futures. These are contracts with no fixed expiration date that let you bet on a price increase or decrease. Leverage can be used, but it can also increase losses.
Why is Hyperliquid important in crypto?
Hyperliquid shows that a blockchain can support both trading and applications built with smart contracts. News about the network may therefore cover new trading markets, apps on HyperEVM, or the role of the HYPE token.
HYPE plays a role in staking and transaction fees, among other things. So when you read news about HYPE, it’s important to know that the token has uses beyond being traded.
Trading perpetual futures carries significant risks. With leverage, a small price move can lead to a large loss. If there isn’t enough collateral, a position can be closed automatically. Hyperliquid also has a relatively small group of validators, which is relevant to the network’s decentralization.
