Smart account
A smart account is an Ethereum wallet with configurable rules. This lets the wallet do more than just sign a transaction.
What is a smart account?
A regular crypto wallet is usually controlled with a single private key. This is a secret code that gives you access to your crypto. A smart account adds programmable rules to the wallet.
These rules use smart contracts: code that carries out preset actions. For example, you can decide when a transaction needs extra approval or how security works.
An example of a smart account
Suppose you want to swap a token and then send it to someone. With a regular wallet, these are often two separate transactions.
A smart account can carry out both actions together in a single transaction. It may also let you pay the gas fee, the cost of a transaction on Ethereum, with a different token.
Why are smart accounts important in crypto?
Smart accounts can make Ethereum easier for new users. For example, you don’t always have to keep ETH on hand just to pay gas fees. Wallets can also offer extra security or recovery options, such as requiring approval on a second device for larger amounts.
In news about Ethereum, wallets, and apps, you may read that smart accounts are supported. This often means transactions can be simpler or more flexible. It doesn’t mean transactions are free: there are still fees, but the way you pay them may change.
