Former US President Donald Trump is hosting a private gala dinner on May 22 at the Trump National Golf Club in Washington, D.C. The event is open only to the 220 biggest investors in the TRUMP memecoin. For the top 25 holders there’s even an "ultra-exclusive private VIP reception" planned.

“Dine with President Trump. The most exclusive invitation in the world,” reads the announcement on the official site dedicated to Trump’s crypto projects.

The market is reacting enthusiastically to the news: the Solana-based TRUMP memecoin rose 30% in a day to about $12.14. On a weekly basis, the rise is 55%. Yet the coin is still far from its all-time high of $75, a gap of about 85%.

Trump himself seems to downplay his involvement with the memecoin. At a press conference on January 21 he said: “I don’t know a lot about it, except that I launched it.”

Meanwhile, there is sharp criticism from both American politics and the crypto community. In particular, Democratic politicians talk of conflicts of interest and corruption. Even within the sector there are questions about the project’s legitimacy. The central question: did the former president scam the world with TRUMP?
