Can ChatGPT make smart contracts safer?

The crypto exchange Coinbase is testing whether ChatGPT can identify risks in smart contracts. The human team is still better.

The exchange conducted a security analysis for ERC-20 tokens using ChatGPT. The company explains this in a blog post. The test focused on running automated token checks using its own ERC-20 token-eligibility framework.

Coinbase compared ChatGPT's analysis results with those from its in-house team. Out of 20 total smart-contract risks, ChatGPT could identify only 12 threats.

"ChatGPT did not meet the accuracy threshold to clearly show that it should be integrated into our asset evaluation process," the exchange said.

Yet the exchange says AI has potential.

In the future, the tool could help perform additional checks to identify any risks that were missed. Artificial intelligence has been a hot topic in the crypto space lately. In our blog, we go deeper into the coins that use AI.
