Cardano unveils new plans

The final phase of development will require users to take control of Cardano. Now details about the Voltaire era have emerged.

Build, decentralize, connect, scale – this is roughly Cardano's roadmap so far. The development of the network is divided into five phases, named after great scientists.

We are currently in “Basho”, the era of scaling up. The fifth and probably final phase will come at the end of the year with "Voltaire". Nigel Helmsley, Vice President of Governance at Input Output Global, has now outlined the development steps that will gradually transfer control of Cardano to its users.

Voltaire - the last Cardano era

Voltaire is based on "three pillars of governance". The first is the Member-Based Organization (MBO). According to Nigel, all governance processes must be mapped on this platform. Guidelines and rules must be enshrined in a common constitution - the "Cardano Constitution" constitutes the second Voltaire pillar.

Democratic consensus is the third element. Participants in the network must be able to vote equally on developments in accordance with the majority principle.

“The Voltaire-era Cardano will provide the final pieces needed for the Cardano network to become a self-sustaining system,” says Cardano. “With the introduction of a voting system, network participants will be able to use their shares and voting rights to influence the future development of the network.”

A date for the technical implementation has not yet been announced. How realistic the roughly intended starting point at the end of this year is also depends on the success of the many secondary updates.

The scaling up that is currently taking place is extensive and still far from the goal. In particular, the layer 2 solution Hydra, whose release has been postponed indefinitely, could delay the transition to Voltaire.
