Chainlink Aims to Bring Transparency to the Crypto Sector
FTX collapse shows the crypto sector has a transparency problem.

The collapse of FTX shows the crypto sector has a transparency problem. A promising approach to a solution comes from Chainlink.
The first exchanges are learning their lesson from the FTX exchange crash. Binance and Crypto.com will reveal their reserves in the future. Other platforms will likely follow. The magic formula is "proof of reserve": procedures that allow reserves to be traced. So a disaster like FTX does not happen again. Such a model was already developed by Chainlink in 2020 and could be used more often now.
Chainlink Wants to Win Back Trust
After it became clear that FTX did not have the necessary reserves, the house of cards for the crypto exchange collapsed quickly. Customer funds may have been misappropriated, and the shaky framework was kept afloat by FTT tokens. If FTX had been open about its capital reserves, worse could probably have been prevented. The exchange crash didn’t just burn billions. The entire crypto sector has been damaged by lost trust.
Systems like Chainlink's can help bring that back. Using Chainlink's proof-of-reserve model, reserves can be regularly verified through automated validation. For example, for lending services, bridges, or trading platforms. Asset reserves are continuously updated via smart contracts. That would prevent more tokens from being issued than there are assets to back them.
"Let’s Improve Web3"
Through Chainlink's Oracle network, data can be traced both on-chain and off-chain. Chainlink says that its proof-of-reserve system uses "the industry's largest decentralized pool of safe and Sybil-resistant node operators to acquire and verify reserve data". The nodes are "capable of withstanding threats such as man-in-the-middle or denial-of-service attacks".
Approaches like Chainlink's Proof of Reserve could help contribute to the much-needed transparency in the crypto sector to minimize reputational damage. "Crypto should be about building an open and transparent global economy," Chainlink said on View post on X. And the "mistakes of the traditional financial system" should not be repeated. Let’s hope the FTX scandal woke the industry up.
