A Czech prince is trying it with NFTs. His plan: preserving the family history.

What royal news William Rudolf Lobkowicz announced in an interview with the American news outlet CNBC: he wants to digitize and immortalize the family's artistic heritage with NFTs.

After the prince's art was stolen twice, the 27-year-old is now trying to secure the 20,000 family treasures on the blockchain. For more than 25 years they had been restoring family items, such as paintings. Through NFTs, he said, people can now share in the Czech royal family's heritage.

"We chose an approach aimed at taking people on a philanthropy journey, so we did something where we take a painting that needs to be restored in a certain way. We then create an NFT and sell it for the price of restoring the work," the prince tells CNBC.

"What I’m doing now, in my view, isn’t different from what my predecessors did. Each prince did something very different, depending on the era he lived in," says Lobkowicz.
