El Salvador and Lugano team up for Bitcoin adoption

A new partnership between Lugano and El Salvador is set to accelerate global crypto adoption.

A new collaboration with a purpose

El Salvador and the Swiss city of Lugano have their sights set on broader global acceptance of Bitcoin in an economic cooperation agreement. The announcement was made during the Plan-₿ Forum in Lugano, hosted by stablecoin issuer Tether (USDT). According to the statement, the new partnership aims to facilitate the exchange of education and research between the two regions, on blockchain and other cryptocurrencies.

A new Bitcoin office

El Salvador, the country where Bitcoin has been legal tender since September 2021, is even opening a "Bitcoin Office" in Lugano. Lugano is one of the most developed regions in Europe when it comes to cryptocurrencies. Among other things, taxes are to be paid in Bitcoin. Recently, fast‑food giant McDonald's Bitcoin payments were adopted in the city.
