To be precise: "I met with the deputy secretary of the Texas government, Joe Esparza. We talked about opening a second Bitcoin embassy and expanding commercial and economic exchange projects. In 2022, El Salvador and the state of Texas had trade of $1.2 billion," the statement continued.
Last year, El Salvador already launched a similar initiative to support the use of cryptocurrencies in Switzerland. Recently, the government passed a law that paved the way for Bitcoin bonds to funnel $1 billion into the Central American country. President Bukele plans to use half of the money to buy Bitcoin and the other half to fund Bitcoin-related infrastructure projects. El Salvador, a country with just over 6 million residents, currently holds 2,381 BTC, according to BitcoinTreasuries. Texas is one of the most crypto-friendly states in the U.S.
