Nine artists want to immortalize David Bowie as an NFT and donate the proceeds to charity. Some Bowie fans disagree. In partnership with OpenSea, the world's largest NFT marketplace, the artists plan to bring the project ‘Bowie on the Blockchain’ to life.

The planned collection combines NFT art from nine well-known artists inspired by David Bowie. The proceeds will go to Care, a charity that fights hunger in developing countries.

"This incredible collection brings together some of the most groundbreaking NFT artists with David Bowie to unite a new generation of fans," Ryan Foutty, vice president at OpenSea, said in a statement.

Many fans disagree on social media. They’re speaking out against the move, including Bowie's own son, filmmaker Duncan Jones. NFTs are viewed as controversial in the media industry. Some see the benefits as questionable, others worry about the environment. The fact remains that more and more artists and stars are using them today.
