Investment giant Fidelity to expand into the metaverse

Financial services provider Fidelity Investments is expanding its Web3 structures. Will customers soon be able to buy funds in the Metaverse?

Fidelity Investments has filed several brand applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to offer services in the Metaverse and other virtual worlds. This is a major step in developing the company's Web3 products and services.

The patent applications include a marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), as well as financial investment and crypto trading services in the Metaverse.

Fidelity's plans were confirmed by USPTO licensee Mike Kondoudis in a tweet:

'Unlike some other large financial service providers, Fidelity Investments is actively exploring digital assets and the potential of Web3.

In the future, the company hopes to offer a broad range of investment services in virtual worlds. Including mutual funds, retirement funds, wealth management and financial planning.

The company's expansion plans have repeatedly drawn criticism from U.S. authorities. The firm launched a Bitcoin retirement savings plan in April 2022. After the collapse of FTX, American senators expressed their concerns.
