Krypto-friendly mayor of New York indicted

Eric Adams is accused of multiple instances of corruption. Under his leadership, New York was to become the "center of the crypto industry."

Against New York Mayor Eric Adams, charges have been filed on suspicion of corruption. Prosecutors accuse the 64-year-old of abusing "prominent positions within city government" in multiple instances over a 10-year period to receive, among other things, "illegal campaign contributions and luxury travel."

Adams allegedly took bribes from foreign businessmen who "tried to influence him." It even mentions "at least one Turkish government official." According to the indictment, Adams also ignored fire safety regulations when he worked to build a skyscraper for "a foreign government." If convicted, he risks up to 45 years in prison.

Adams dismissed the allegations. Via X, he stated, "I know I have done nothing wrong, and I am determined to continue my commitment to the people of New York as your mayor."

Eric Adams, who was elected mayor of New York in 2021, has spoken positively about cryptocurrencies several times in the past. When he took office, he promised to make New York a "center of the crypto industry." He received his first salaries as mayor in Bitcoin and Ethereum.
