Largest crypto money-laundering service on the dark web shut down

Investigators have shut down the (they say) 'world's largest money-laundering operation on the dark web.' Since 2017, about 154,000 bitcoin, worth about 2.8 billion euros, have been laundered through "ChipMixer".

A large portion of that comes from Darknet marketplaces, from fraudulently obtained crypto assets, from ransomware groups, and from other criminal activities, according to the federal investigative office. In addition, funds from the failed crypto exchange FTX were transferred through the crypto mixer.

According to the federal investigators, yesterday, Wednesday, the Germany-based server infrastructure was seized: 44 million euros in Bitcoin and 7 terabytes of data were secured. For the federal police, this is the largest seizure of crypto assets to date. Europol and the FBI were also involved in the investigation. The main suspect is being sought in the U.S.
