Lighter Rises 23% After Delphi Note and CFTC Plan

Delphi Digital points to Lighter as a beneficiary of trading activity, while founder Novakovski announced a CFTC application for a derivatives license. That keeps the token in the spotlight despite recent market weakness.

Lighter Rises 23% After Delphi Note and CFTC Plan

Key Takeaways

  • Lighter rose 23.49% this week over seven days and 12.85% in 24 hours, to about $3.83.
  • Delphi Digital mentioned Lighter in a report on speculation and trading activity, alongside Robinhood and Hyperliquid.
  • Founder Vladimir Novakovski said Lighter wants to file an application for a CFTC derivatives license in November.

Lighter (LIT) climbed sharply this week, even as the broader crypto market fell. The token rose 12.85% in 24 hours and posted a 23.49% gain over seven days, reaching about $3.83 (€3.41). That made LIT the biggest gainer among the 100 largest cryptocurrencies.

Two Triggers for the Rally

The price move lined up with two developments over two days. Delphi Digital published a report on October 20 saying speculation is a major theme of this decade. According to the researchers, the key question is not just which tokens win, but mainly which platforms make money from trading activity.

In that report, Delphi names Lighter alongside Robinhood and Hyperliquid. The research firm pointed to zero fees for retail traders and distribution through Robinhood Wallet. Since July, that wallet has also offered Lighter perpetual futures in selected markets outside the United States. Robinhood also joined the funding round in November 2025.

More Attention on Lighter

Based on DefiLlama data, Delphi estimated that Lighter processed about $56 billion (€49.8 billion) in 30-day volume in early October. Hyperliquid was clearly higher at about $203 billion (€181 billion), while Variational and Aster were in between. That puts Lighter in a group of platforms that benefit from trading activity rather than the price of one specific token.

Then another catalyst came along. Founder Vladimir Novakovski said Lighter wants to file an application with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in November for a derivatives license. For European readers, that matters because a formal filing in the U.S. can show how quickly crypto exchanges and derivatives platforms are moving toward regulation, especially now that regulators are taking a closer look at crypto and blockchain.

Still Far Below the Peak

Despite the recent jump, LIT is still well below its late-2025 high. The token hit an all-time high of $7.86 (€7.00) on December 30, 2025, the day the airdrop went live. From the current level, LIT would need to rise about 105% to get back near that mark.

The next few months could be especially important for the market around Lighter. The expected CFTC filing comes first. After that, new token supply follows, because team and investor allocations, together making up half of all LIT, are set to start vesting at the end of January 2027, according to tokenomics data. The first monthly unlock includes about 13.5 million tokens.
